TO LEIBA

The AERORIDER is the best!

The statement in the title is undoubtedly subjective as there is no disputing about tastes. Anyway, I had spent much time evaluating the advantageous and disadvantageous properties of velomobiles until AERORIDER was victorious in this never-invited contest. However, the data you will find below are merely objective. At the beginning, my viewpoints were as follows:

1. It should be light (it should be ridden also without a motor).

2. It should be closed but could also be ventilated and opened (it should be used if it is raining, blowing or if the sun is shining).

3. The Rohloff hub and BION X hub motor could be jointly built in (Rohloff and BION X are technical wonders in their kind, I have experienced both).

4. Each wheel should have a suspension (it should fit to the Hungarian road conditions, that is to say, I would like to use it with the less possible jerking).

5. The rear wheel should be a 26-inch one (in order that it could be exchanged with my other bikes).

Well, that was the starting point, but of course, such a velomobile was not manufactured. LEIBA was the single one who would be willing to implement that individual requirement. It is worth mentioning the name of Mr Eduard Jeske, who undertook all my impossible wishes. Nevertheless, as I was getting more and more acquainted with it, there arose some new aspects:

6. Reverse (except for AERORIDER, this was solved by ’finstone’ method by every manufacturer, that is, the under part of the cover was cut out where you can put out your leg and the machine goes reverse. It would be an impossible show when at a sloping junction.)

7. Visibility (Every manufacturer copes with removing the external moisture and internal mist. Only AERORIDER could solve this by installing a windscreen wiper and glass windscreen as well as three kinds of ventilation systems.)

8. Delivery date (nobody delivers prompt, but the deadline of 9 or 12 months is not rare. AERORIDER undertook manufacturing at seven months, i.e. for April 2008.)

9. Appearance from aesthetic point of view: (the majority is acceptable but, without doubt, AERORIDER belongs among the most beautiful ones regarding form, shape and finishing).

10. Luggage space (AERORIDER is unbeatable with its closed luggage space of about 120 litres).

11. Price (all are very expensive, but if you try to upgrade any of them to the level of AERORIDER by DIY activity, then the price is the most favourable).

12. Accessability of the manufacturers (for me, all of them seem to be located in out-of-the-way places, somewhere near the German-Holland border, and AERORIDER is situated even a longer way off, in Ijmuiden, about 30 kilometres of Antwerp.)

In all all, only two aspects remained from the original five ones, namely, being closed and the fact it can be ventilated as well as having suspensions on all wheels.

Mr Bart de Wert, the owner of the AERORIDER B.V., at first recommended me the SUNRIDER manufactured by the same company. It should be emphasized that he was very patient with my questions, requests and modifications.
