August 5, 2007. BION X is put into operation! By the assistance of Eszter and Ben, we managed to fix on the AZUB 5 recumbent the BION X smart, electronically-controlled driving and back-charging wonder-machinery (namely, the hub motor) of Canadian manufacture. This is a wonder indeed because it is unique among the several other electronical drivings which are capable of driving the bicycle. However, what it offers besides are as follows:
1. When idle running, this hub motor does not brake the wheel, contrary to the other hub motors tested by myself. They brake considerably (as for Antibringa K 4, I took out the hub motor from the wheel. See point 8., a two-wheeled K model).
2. The amplifying can be regulated (in four gears).
3. When braking, it charges back to the battery.
4. When driving on a slope, it can be changed over to charging operation (in four gears), and it charges back to the battery.
5. It can be fixed on a usual bicyle in a simple way in two hours without any drilling.
6. It has a small, simple and still many-sided display unit (charging, degree of amplifying or charging, speed, distance, time, total covered route, average speed).
7. A very low weight (motor, battery and others weigh about 7 or 7.5 kgs).
8. It is still, almost soundless when driving, it murmurs a bit when braking.
Regarding that I have not got a usual bike, I spent a whole day with fixing, but I enjoyed it very much. I collected the spare parts from a bike that had been put aside. The most enjoyable thing is, when the motor starts to murmur downhill when pulling the brake or switching on the generator operation. The energy of the braking charges back to the battery, and, what is more, I can see its size graphically. The designers and constructors found it out excellently. They managed to apply a state-of-the-art technique in such a way that everything is very simple, light and clear. I cannot help remembering the 20 kms of the first test run, it is fascinating to ride such a bike. I have covered great distances since the first test run, and my opinion is unchanged. Among others, I had it in Vajta with me also, the photos were made there…
